Suggestion: IRC channel

Suggestion: IRC channel

I believe that this community should have an IRC channel:
  • Users no longer will need to waste time refreshing a webpage in order to see new messages.
  • IRC allows users to see who is in the channel at any given time, making contacting other users easier.
  • Usernames can be registered and protected, made only accessible through a password.
  • Moderation is extremely easy: banning IP addresses is a quick and easy way to prevent any problematic users from chatting.
  • Spambots no longer will be an issue.
  • Through MemoServ, users can send memos to each other for later. This is useful for users who go offline for large amounts of time.
  • IRC channels are completely free to register, and most clients (like X-Chat 2) are free as well.
  • For users who have no client, there are widgets like Mibbit; some IRC networks have webchat pages that can be accessed through a link that also would direct users to the channel. Both easily can be installed on a blog.

I'm more than willing to help anyone who needs assistance with anything related to this.

why do you think you have to host it on your server

there's like a billion irc servers you could just make a channel on

Is IRC-related content disallowed on the forum server, or the blog server?

Both.

The only way to get a IRC server is buy a server yourself and host it yourself.

I... don't quite like hosting things that's beyond my control...

you

what

why buy an irc server
just use any irc server out there that already exists (esper, mibbit, rizon..) and make a channel

do you even know what you're talking about

i mean originally you said your reason for no irc was your internet connection didn't allow it but now you're saying you don't want to buy a server for it

i mean origin ...
First: My University bans most IRC ports - you can notice I don't show up on IRC unless something urgent happens, or I need to find a specific person who only go on IRC.
(I could get around it, but still.)
Second: I don't want a 3rd party hosting something for me (Reference: We are the 1st party, the Hosting Company are 2nd company, I pay money to them, they have responsibility to ensure that I have complete control over it, and if they cannot, they must provide a reason (which is why I decided to switch hosts after 8 months) . While ppirc, etc are 3rd parties, you use it, it holds nothing for you, when it's gone or down you can't address the loss, I know there isn't a lot loss, but still.)

If you want an IRC channel, make one on ppirc since that's the server I can go on (with some work), but I won't be constantly online and manage it.

Reasonable enough. I can set up an IRC channel for this community, then.
The only issue is finding a name that suits both of the merged communities. What would you suggest?

I don't know Taikotime would actually need one since almost all of their members there are osu players, and osu comes with bancho, their initial IRC system.
Still, Any ideas? guys?
